The Monday Show Low Down (Or "When I Was An Astronaut In World War II...")

Happy day-off day. Been spending the last few hours updating the show calendar while listening to Manhattan Murder Mystery and The Temporary Thing (who could likely not be more different) and it's been oddly meditative.

Been thinking lately about how much goddamn fun it's been to put on the Let's Independent! show each month at Boardner's for the last two years. It's pushed me to regularly look out for new bands to play the show and I'm really thankful for that because it's introduced me to so much great fucking music.

This month's event, for example, has three acts who I can't stop listening to lately. More on that show tomorrow... Here's what this week is looking like.

Monday, September 1
- Sean Carnage Presents Thirst Rockers, Alexis Gideon, Carcrashlander, & Kid Infinity @ Pehrspace
- Ice Cube @ The House of Blues
- Danel Brummel, Berry, Gertie Fox, Satisfaction, & Odd Modern @ Mr T's Bowl
- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Pod Blotz, Debaser, tik///tik/ & Moment Trigger @ The Smell
- Dios Malos, miguel mendez, and Underground Railroad to Candyland @ Spaceland (FREE)

Never seen a full set by Dios Malos before, but I really like their recorded work. This is probably a good time to check them out, because Death to Anders has some pretty amazing line-ups coming to their Monday night residency at The Echo, which starts next week.

Tuesday, September 2
- Sons and Daughters & Birdmonster @ The Troubadour
- Aquarium Drunkard presents: Centro-matic, Sleepercar, South San Gabriel @ Spaceland
- The Wombats, Afternoons, Pop Noir @ Echoplex
- thenewno2, Django James and The Midnight Squires, The Morgansterns, & The Art @ The Key Club
- Paul Weller @ The Wiltern
- Past Lives, Protect Me, & Fishermen @ The Smell
- 400 Blows @ The Echo
- Mike Stinson @ The Redwood Bar
- T-Bowl Tuesday @ Mr T's Bowl
- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Vermouth, Mr Lewis and The Funeral Fire, & Cat Hair Ensemble @ The Scene
- Brian Wilson CD signing @ Amoeba Music (10AM)

I've heard some demo tracks off Afternoons' eventual release that have kind of destroyed me by how good they are.

Wednesday, September 3
- Indie 103 presents CLUB NME with: The Human Value, Xu Xu Fang, Black Pine @ Spaceland
- BMI & Indie 103.1 Presents Run Run Run, War Tapes, The Movies, & Middle Class Rut @ The Viper Room
- Rachel Sierra, Ian Cooke, Olin and the Moon, & The Meemies @ Tangier (lounge)
- Aaron (Amnion) Embry & Friends w/ Avi Buffalo & The Relationship @ Tangier (restaurant)
- Usu Shi Ma Mi Re, Spider Problem, & Sartre's Lobster @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Carney @ The Troubadour
- The Night Marchers, Colour Revolt, Slang Chickens @ The Echo
- Lee "Scratch" Perry & PaceWon @ Amoeba Music (7PM)
- KCRW Presents Loudon Wainwritght III @ Largo
- Dub Club @ Echoplex

- Lee Scratch Perry with Abe Vigoda, PaceWon & Mr. Green @ The El Rey
- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Paul Weller @ The Wiltern

Xu Xu Fang and The Black Pine are an excellent team-up... The Movies are good enough to brave The Sunset Strip for... Aaron Embry from Amnion at Tangier should also be great.

Thursday, September 4
- The Frames & Eleni Mandell @ The Henry Fonda Music Box (sold-out)
- Lion of Panjshir, Jonathan Wilson, & Dionysius @ Tangier
- The Copper Thief, Carcrashlander, Alexis Gideon, & Tom Brosseau @ The Smell
- David Allan Coe & Billy Bob Thornton @ Crash Mansion
- Why?, Rafter, Dub Lab DJ’s @ Echoplex
- Respect @ The Echo
- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Ghost Machinist, Ian Cooke, The Pacific, & Space Bar @ Mr T's Bowl
- Lenka @ The Hotel Cafe
- Rosewood Thieves, Growlers, He's My Brother She's My Sister, & Silent Comedy @ The Silver Lake Lounge

Anyone have any recommendation for Thursday night?

Friday, September 5th
- Justin Riner's Birthday Party w/ Calamity Magnet, Loverlee, The Bentleys, The Modlins, Jane Error, Enid The Dowl, & Squaregirls (DJing) @ The Knitting Factory
- Jon Brion @ Largo
- Nada Surf & The Watson Twins @ The Troubadour
- Kav (formerly of Happy Mondays), Eastern Conference Champions, Once @ Spaceland
- CW Stoneking, Lords of Altamont & Kill Devils @ The Redwood Bar
- Jeremy Jay, Babl Bigits, & Young Hunting @ Pehrspace
- Amateurs, Clevis, Ready the Jet, Seasons, & Downtown Union @ Mr T's Bowl
- Club Underground @ The Echo

The line-ups at both The Knitting Factory and Mr T's Bowl look pretty solid for this Friday night...

Saturday, September 6th
- Rademacher Record Release Event w/ Le Switch & Light FM @ Pehrspace
- Urinals, A.M., Audacity, & Stellerphone @ The Smell
- Bootie LA @ The Echo
- Twilight Sleep, Tigers Can Bite You, The Shimmies, The Delta Mirror @ Spaceland

- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Jeff Caudill, Motorcycle Black Madonnas, Pat Todd and The Rank Outsiders, Jeff Cabot and Friends, & The Boardwalkers @ Mr T's Bowl
- Dohrn, Dust Pilots, The Girl With Violent Arms, & Anesthetic Frank @ The Cocaine at Live Jazz

If Rademacher, Le Switch, or Light FM were playing on their own, I'd definitely say go see them.

But altogether at Pehrspace? Holy fuck...

Sunday, September 7th
- Manifest Destiny Fest w/ Witchcraft, Earthless, & Warlocks @ Echoplex
- Death Vessel @ Spaceland
- Grand Ole Echo @ The Echo (early)
- Part Time Punks w/ Twin Crystals @ The Echo (late)
- Poleshift @ The Troubadour
- CW Stoneking @ The Redwood Bar
- Luna is Honey, Tijuana Panthers, The Sess, & James and The Animals @ Mr T's Bowl
- Jana Hunter, Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez, Learning Music, & Karin Tatoyan @ Tangier (lounge)
- The Cocktail Hour w/ Inara George & Greg Kurstin @ Tangier (restaurant)

Psyche rock at Echoplex or cocktails at Tangier? Flip a coin.

That's it. Please lemme know if I missed anything. (Still don't have reliable show info for 3 Clubs, The Airliner, and such.)

For Thursday the 4th I suggest seeing Alexis Gideon at the Smell. He does a 20-minute multimedia show with projected animation and rapping that's really, really fun. I saw him at Pehrspace on Monday and loved it.
