The Monday Show Low Down (Or “This Song Has Been Deleted By The Artist”)

Yesterday’s Little Radio Summer Camp could easily be described as more than casually amazing. Besides all the fun in the sun, margaritas, copious amounts of Guitar Hero 2, and great folks on hand, Thailand, The Switch, and Xu Xu Fang were amazing. (Tim from The Movies handled sound and did a fucking killer job.)

There was a moment during The Switch’s set when I had one of those live music moments where you realize that there’s no place you’d rather be in the entire world than right there right then. They sounded that good. And it may have been my favorite Thailand performance, too.

Looking forward… I’m incredibly behind on updating the concert calendar… I’ve got about forty listings to post to it and little or no time to do so, so I’ll focus on this week and add more soon.

Monday, July 2
- 5 O'Clock Somewhere, Los Duggans, & Whiskey Biscuit @ The Echo (FREE)
- Eskimo Hunter, Gran Ronde, & Triangle @ Spaceland (FREE)
- Light FM, Rademacher, & El Olio Wolof @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- Protection, Suicide Club, Totally Radd, & Love Lies Sleeping @ The Viper Room
- Everybody @ Bordello
- Thee Fine Lines, Quan & the Chinese Take-Outs, & United Snakes @ The Scene
- Cecilia Noel & The Wild Clams @ The Gig

DECISION:
As far as tonight’s free residencies go, I’d definitely head to The Silver Lake Lounge to see Light FM and Fresno’s Rademacher if I didn’t have to work really goddamn late.

Tuesday, July 3
- Ankore & Family @ The Troubadour
- The Binges & Year Long Disaster @ The Roxy Theatre
- The Chapin Sisters & I See Hawks in LA @ The Echo
- Death To Anders, She's Your Sister, The Waking Hours, Shiloe, Infidelinc., & Tweakbird @ Safari Sam's
- Mincemeat or Tenspeed, Shearing Pinx, Dave Smolen, Cars Will Burn, & Beach Balls @ The Smell
- Ladykillers, Action 45, More than Never, Sidekick, & General Purpose @ The Scene (FREE)
- Modern Memory, Teddy’s Cheer Club, Wake Up Incinerate, & Temporary Thing @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Talkdemonic, Listing Ship, & Tenlons Fort @ Spaceland

DECISION:
Death To Anders did a great set at The Echo last Saturday night. They just got added onto the list of bands playing on Tuesday at Safari Sam's.

Wednesday, July 4
- Kiss or Kill Presents Independence Day Explosion w/ The Prix, The Poor Excuses, The Clark 8, OK Stranger, Bobot Adrenaline, Steel, The Virginia City Revival, & More @ El Cid
- Bad Dudes, Flee The Century, Ima Fucking Gymnist, Love Boat, & Vomit Bomb @ The Scene
- Die! Die! Die!, Teenage Frames, & The Front @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Bodies of Water @ Mr T’s Bowl
- Dub Club @ Echoplex

DECISION:
A lot of places are going to be closed on the fourth, but the BBQ at El Cid with The Prix and The Poor Excuses sounds pretty fun.

Thursday, July 5
- Great Northern & Foreign Born @ UCLA Hammer Museum
- Facing New York @ The Troubadour
- The Hard To Get, The Sundelles, & The Modlins @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Rock Insider Presents with The Valley Arena, The Outline, & Cavil At Rest @ The Troubadour
- Lux& Ruby's Burlesque w/The Scene, Automatic Music Explosion, & Letter Openers @ The Scene
- Army of Me @ The Viper Room
- Low End Theory Presents: Unreleased Beat Invitational #3 feat. Dntel, Flying Lotus, Eligh, Ooah, Dibiase and Ras G @ The Echoplex
- The Modlins, The Hard To Get, & The Sundelles @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- 400 Blows & Big Business @ the Echo
- Patrick Park & Emily Wells @ Spaceland

DECISION:
Great Northern and Foreign Born on the same stage? It’s going to be increasingly harder and harder to see both of these bands this year, so you should fucking go -- especially if you’ve never heard them before. They’re both excellent live.

Friday, July 6
- Bloodcat Love, Rock and Roll, Crash Hot, & The '87 Stick Up Kids @ Spaceland
- Club Underground @ The Echoplex
- Mad Caddies @ The Troubadour
- The Capshuns @ The Viper Room
- The Monolators, The Amateurs, Cat Hair Ensemble, & The Sweet Hurt @ Mr. T’s Bowl
- Charlemagne, Hand Over Heart, & The Sister Ruby Band @ Pehrspace
- Trans Am @ The Beauty Bar
- Captain Ahab, Death Set, Ponytail, Double Plus Good, & Nosaj Thing @ The Smell
- Get Yer Rocks Off! w/Peel, The Wallburds, The Clean Prophets, & Regime Noir @ The Scene
- Electromagnetic, The Shore, & Sky Drops @ El Cid
- Buckfast @ Molly Malone’s

DECISION:
I’ve been meaning to catch local pop act The Amateurs and they’re playing with punk Buddy Holly-esque band The Monolators, so that makes for a pretty solid line-up, but I’m a sucker for the sad, but endearingly so Black Pine.

Saturday, July 7
- Scribble Jam & Medusa @ The Troubadour
- Rocco Deluca & the Burden @ The Henry Fonda
- Pink Mochi & Spider Problem @ The Scene
- Correatown, The Sweet Hurt, & Breakfast All Day @ Pehrspace
- The Jack Bambis, Ari Shine, & The Melendrez Brothers @ The Echo (3PM)
- Smog Sessions w/ Joe Nice @ The Echo
- Total Abuse, Oh Home, Pocahaunted, & Russian Reversal @ The Smell
- Jack Bambis, Ari Shine, The Melendrez Brothers, & Max Prussner @ The Echo
- Check Yo Ponytail @ The Echoplex
- The Rentals, Goldenboy, & Shana Levy (Let’s Go Sailing) @ Spaceland
- The Decemberists & Band of Horses @ The Hollywood Bowl

DECISION:
The Decemberists and Band of Horses are both great live, but big venues like The Bowl and the whole sitting down to listen to music thing kind of, I dunno, bores me. (If that makes me sound spoiled and/or lazy, it's probably pretty accurate.)

Sunday, July 8
- Little Radio Summer Camp w/ Great Northern, Coco B's, & The Upside Down
- Neil Hamburger, Dr. El Suavo, & TV Sheriff @ Spaceland
- The Grand Ole Echo w/ Skeeter Truck, Dan Janisch, & Restaurant @ The Echo (FREE – 5PM)
- Part Time Punks w/ Upsilon Acrux @ The Echo (10PM)
- Organ Music and the Trans Orgone League, DSS, & Dog Shit Taco @ The Scene
- A Decent Animal, Summer Darling, Kissing Cousins, Writer, & Stardeath and The White Dwarfs @ Tangier
- The Northern Two, Bank Holiday, Tiny Moths, & C is for Carlo @ The Eagle Rock Bowling & Drinking Club at All-Star Lanes

DECISION:
I’m a stuck record: Little Radio Summer Camp during the day and The Eagle Rock Bowling & Drinking Club at night equals one great Sunday.

That's it. What did I miss? Please lemme know.
