The Monday Show Low Down (Or "Wild Bears, Hallucinogens, and Box Wine Don't Mix...")

If you're trying to chart out your Monday evenings for this month, good luck. Because there are a few instances where there a few great bands playing the same night at different venues.

Por ejemplo, the free residencies include Afternoons at Spaceland, Rumspringa at The Echo, Spider Problem at The Silver Lake Lounge, and The French Semester at Mr T's Bowl. The former (the indie pop act featuring members of Irving, Afternoons) and latter (lo-fi indie rock group The French Semester) have some excellent line-ups put together -- while I haven't heard either Rumspringa or Spider Problem before, though I've heard people make some favorable clucking noises about both of them.

Monday, June 16th will likely crack the local concert-going crowd in half, as the much-hearted Everest join Afternoons at Spaceland, while local psych rock gods Xu Xu Fang have the release party for their long-awaited cd at The Viper Room.

Then later on Monday, June 30th, Ventura pop act The Coral Sea join The French Semester's bill, while the twin threat of The Happy Hollows and The Movies hop on with Afternoons.

It all gets pretty complicated...

Anyway, here's what this week is looking like:

- Joan of Arc, 31 Knots, Witch Hats, & The Primos @ Pehrspace

DECISION:
I was just talking with some friends the other night about how we'd never gone to The Grand Ole Echo at The Echo... It looks like this is the one to go to since a lot of the more notable local country and folk acts are playing it. It's a cd release party for I See Hawks In LA and starts at 5 (after the, no shit, squaredance lessons at 3).

A world away, The Smell has a good even earlier line-up for the experimental rock fans w/ No Age, Mika Miko, and more.

That's it. Did I miss anything? Please lemme know.
