The Monday Show Low Down (Or "Don't Have To Be Psychic To Read The Writing On The Wall...")

Last Saturday at Pehrspace with Rademacher, Light FM, and Le Switch was one of those nights that sticks in your head... where individual moments compete for dominance, with many songs performed so well they elicited a "Did that really just happen?!" reaction.

Ended up playing some new tracks from The Western States Motel, The Monolators, Wait Think Fast, The Black Pine, Death To Anders, and more in-between sets and it was pretty great to see people dancing to The Monolators' (no joke) title track disco remix off their upcoming album.

Anyway, here's what this (somewhat slimmer) week looks like.

Monday, September 8
- Death to Anders, Manhattan Murder Mystery, The Henry Clay People, & Robert Francis @ The Echo (FREE)
- Dios (Malos), Radar Brothers, Leviathan Brothers, Marching Band @ Spaceland (FREE)
- Alex and Sam & Rachael Cantu @ Tangier
- Amos Lee @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Big Bang @ The Troubadour
- Micael Rosas, Daniel Brummel w/ Monstro, & Foreign Keys @ Mr T's Bowl
- Sean Carnage Presents Kyle H. Mabson, Sex-S (record release), Adventure, Future Islands, I.E. @ Pehrspace
- My Imaginary Friends, Caroline Movement, Whispering Pines, & The Young Hunting @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- Obedient Waves @ The Airliner

DECISION:
Death To Anders' free Monday night residency kicks off tonight at The Echo... Each week has a few great extra bands to keep you coming back and this one is noteworthy b/c of The Henry Clay People and Manhattan Murder Mystery.

Tuesday, September 9
- thenewno2, Rumspringa, The Outline, & White Arrows @ The Key Club
- Lukas Haas @ The Roxy
- Headtraffic, Soggy Dechamp Oetet, & more @ Mr T's Bowl
- Aquarium Drunkard Persents: Damien Jurado, Jennifer O’Connor, Little Wings @ Spaceland
- Ratatat @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Echo Park Arts project @ The Echo
- Alejandro Escovedo @ The Troubadour
- Stop Revolt & New London @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Mogwai & Fuck Buttons @ The Wiltern

DECISION:
Post rock gods Mogwai are still so good that they're worth dealing with the ticket price, parking cost, and extensive amount of rules associated with seeing a show at The Wiltern.

Wednesday, September 10
- Bodies of Water, Throw Me The Statue, & Princeton @ The Echo
- The Young Hunting & Sweet Kill @ 3 of Clubs (FREE)
- Ratatat @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Built to Spill @ The Troubadour
- Bad Vic & The Good Intentions, Henry Bermudez Trio, The Other Side of Morning, & more @ Mr T's Bowl
- Indie 103 presents CLUB NME with: Mack Winston and the Reflections @ Spaceland
- Black Crayons, Rocking Horse People, Ojos Rojos, & Spirit Vine @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Olin And The Moon, Eleni Mandell, Dillon Campbell, & Venus Illuminato @ Tangier (FREE - lounge)
- Aaron (Amnion) Embry & Friends, Tenlons Fort, & Dirt Bird @ Tangier (restaurant)
- Nels Cline & Jon Brion @ Largo
- The Parson Redheads @ Amoeba Music (7PM)

DECISION:
I still get songs off of Princeton's EP stuck in my goddamn head all the time and the last time I saw Bodies of Water play (granted, it was a year ago), I finally got why people like them so much. And I hear good things about Throw Me The Statue.

Meanwhile, the pairing of Aaron (Amnion) Embry and Tenlons Fort at Tangier sounds more than a little dangerous.

Thursday, September 11
- Seasons, Flying Tourbillon Orchestra, Avi Buffalo @ The Unknown Theatre
- The Dollyrots, Calamity Magnet, Looker, Lisa Douglass, & Late Night Special Guest @ The Viper Room
- Jenny Lewis @ Spaceland

- Lion of Panjshir, Gangi, Golden Animals, & Jeff Ramuno N's The Gunslingers @ Tangier
- Go West Young Man, Les Blanks, My Pet Saddle, & Voyeurs @ The Silver Lake Lounge

DECISION:
If you're not catching the first of Jenny Lewis' smaller local events, the show at The Unknown Theatre w/ The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra and friends sounds good.

Friday, September 12

- Franklin for Short, The Miles Approach, Mike Runion @ Pehrspace
- Bastidas, Die Rockers Die, The Groggs, & Meho Plaza @ The Smell
- Supreme Beings of Leisure & Carmen Rizzo @ Echoplex

- Phantom Planet @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- The Voyeurs, The Dirty Hearts, The Active Set, Casper @ The Knitting Factory
- Brian Wilson & The LA Philharmonic Orchestra @ The Hollywood Bowl

DECISION:
Anyone have any recommendations for Friday or Saturday night? Brian Wilson, Tony Bennett, Jon Brion, and Inara George w/ Van Dyke Parks could be fun, though a little work to get to see.

Sunday, September 14
- TURNING TOWARD THE SUN - A benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles w/ Moving Picture Show, Just Off Turner, String Quartet, & Brandon Schott @ Safari Sam's

- Grand Ole Echo & Echo Present: Duane Jarvis, Kurt Ross @ The Echo
- Part Time Punks presents: ? @ The Echo (late)
- Brian Wilson & The LA Philharmonic Orchestra @ The Hollywood Bowl

DECISION:
Turning Toward The Sun on Sunday night at Safari Sam's is a benefit show for the Make-A-Wish Foundation organized in part by local singer-songwriter Brandon Schott, who recently recovered from a life-threatening bout with cancer. Moving Picture Show and more join the bill.

I've also heard people say nice things about Learning Music, who are playing each Sunday night at Tangier.

That's it. Did I miss anything? Please lemme know.
