The Monday Show Low Down (Or "No Riders Except Blondes, Brunettes, & Redheads...")

Many thanks to everyone who performed, attended, and helped put on last night's Rock Against HD benefit at Spaceland with Light FM, Radars to the Sky, and Fol Chen. More on that soon...

Here's a look at this week in local music:

Monday, February 2
- Aquarium Drunkard presents Le Switch, Whispertown 2000, Wrong Way Driver, & The World Record @ Spaceland (FREE)
- KROQ Locals Only, Buzzbands LA, Metromix, Citizen LA, and The Fold presents... Local Natives, The Outline, Lemon Sun, & Aushua @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- Crooked Fingers & So Many Wizards @ Bordello
- Razorlight @ The Troubadour
- Sean Carnage Presents Moment Trigger, Pedestrian Deposit, p r o t e c t m e, Terrors, & God Equals Genocide @ Pehrspace
- The Holloys, Bonn Bruno, Anna Oxygen, Dave Scott Stone @ The Echo (FREE)
- Gang Gang Dance, Haunted Gafitti, & Nite Jewel @ The Smell
- Nightmares on Wax @ Echoplex

I haven't heard Local Natives, but the fact that Kevin Bronson's Buzz Bands site is co-presenting makes me curious... I don't think I've ever seen anything less than a completely amazing performance by Le Switch... I've meant to see So Many Wizards after watching that great video... and the line-up over at Echo Curio should make for a fun time.

Tuesday, February 3
- Miranda Lee Richards, The Shore, & Magic Mirror @ Spaceland
- Mike Stinson & Dave Gleason @ Redwood Bar
- Check One Twosday w/ The Bronx @ Echoplex
- Razorlight @ The Troubadour
- Joe K's Kids, Mahi Gato, Box Violet, & Bastidas @ Mr T's Bowl
- Eric Garcetti Fundraiser w/ Greg Laswell, Jim Bianco, Whispertown 2000, & more @ The Hotel Cafe
- Rachael Cantu, Monster, & Evan Voytas @ The Silver Lake Lounge

It might be time for a trip over to Redwood Bar for some good local country music.

Wednesday, February 4
- Castledoor, Overview, Zoro, & Safety @ Bordello
- Aquarium Drunkard presents Fruit Bats, Sera Cahoone, Luke Top @ The Echo
- Tartufi, Glasser, & Dame Satan @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Low End Theory @ The Airliner
- Evangenitals @ Mr T's Bowl
- Matt & Kim, The Mae Shi, & The Underground Railroad to Candyland @ The Troubadour
- Club NME w/ Little Boots @ Spaceland
- No Babies, Anni Rossi, Whitman, Nicole Kidman, & Realicide @ The Smell

- The Soft Pack (formerly The Muslims) & Crocodiles @ The Echo
- NO CULTURE with Resident DJs Guns N Bombs, Goddollars @ The Echo
- Marathon Live w/ Lights, The Fling, & Volume @ 3 Clubs

Haven't heard any of the supporting bands at Bordello on Weds night, but Castledoor play small venues like they're playing to crowds of thousands. (The line-ups at The Echo and The Troubadour are also well-worth checking out.)

Thursday, February 5
- El Ten Eleven, Emily Wells, & Charlotte Martin @ The Hotel Cafe
- NoFX w/ Youth Brigade @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Dave Rawlings & Gillian Welch @ Largo
- Circa Survive @ The Troubadour
- The Freeks, Davis, Sasquatch, & Sassy @ Spaceland

- Bunnies and Kitties, Wilson Heights Gang, Confirmed Bachelor, & Cat Hair Ensemble @ The Hyperion Tavern
- Andy Friedman, Horse Thieves, & City of Progress @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Pilar Diaz, Wait Think Fast, & La Santa Cecilia @ Bordello

Sure, you could (and, well, should) see The World Record play for free on Monday night, but there's something about catching them in a defunct, subterranean bowling alley...

Friday, February 6
- Elaine Layabout's Hella Hipster Hoedown w/ Divisadero, My Pet Saddle, Death to Anders, & Dirt Dress @ Pehrspace
- Angela Correa with Birdie Busch @ The Hotel Cafe
- Moses Campbell, Pangea, God Equals Genocide, Watercolor Paintings, & The Widow Babies @ The Smell
- I See Hawks in L.A. w/ Merle Jagger, Stampead @ Redwood Bar
- NoFX @ The Henry Fonda Music Box

- Jon Brion @ Largo

- ISGOODMUSIC.COM presents Les Blanks, The French Semester, Spirit Vine, The Van Pelts!, & Seasons @ Mr T's Bowl
- Fucked Up, Mika Miko, Underground Railroad to Candyland, & Trash Talk @ Echoplex
- Pizza!, Kid Infinity, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Dana & Stripes @ Bow & Sparrow Gallery

Elaine Layabout has taped video at dozens, if not hundreds, of great local shows the last few years. Her "Hella Hipster Hoedown" night with Divisadero, My Pet Saddle, Death to Anders, and Dirt Dress at Pehrspace is both self-explanatory and required viewing.

Saturday, February 7
- Fol Chen Record Release Party w/ Karin Tatoyan & Avi Buffalo w/ Dublab's DJ Clifford Lidell @ Pehrspace
- Dirty City Brothers, Kate Crash, & Black Tales @ Mr T's Bowl
- Victoria @ Home (FREE)
- Good for Cows, Ninja Academy, Totally Serious, We Be The Echo, & Clevis @ The Smell

- Tompkins Square presents Charlie Louvin, Mike Stinson, Frank Fairfield @ Spaceland
- Scott Weiland @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Funky Sole @ The Echo
- Carney @ The Troubadour
- The Lions @ Amoeba Music (2PM)

Pehrspace should be ridiculously packed on Saturday night as Fol Chen celebrate the release of their album on Asthmatic Kitty, along with the much liked Karin Tatoyan and Avi Buffalo. It's one of those self-sacrificing shows that's worth heading over early for a good spot and (gasp) not drinking so you don't lose it.

Sunday, February 8
- TSOL, Black President & The Stranger @ Echoplex
- Part Time Punks @ The Echo
- Suki Ewers, Dallas Don & The Echo Park Players, & Patria Jacobs @ Spaceland
- NoFX @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Alex & Sam @ Home (FREE)

The Los Feliz restaurant Home opened up a new location over at the far edge of Silver Lake and the food seems a lot better there. (It's one of those fancy brunch places.) They've also just started having shows, like this Sunday's performance by Alex & Sam. Maybe it'll replace Tangier's now that it's on hiatus...

That's it. Did I miss anything? Please lemme know.
