The Monday Show Low Down (Or "No Riders Except Blondes, Brunettes, & Redheads...")
Many thanks to everyone who performed, attended, and helped put on last night's Rock Against HD benefit at Spaceland with Light FM, Radars to the Sky, and Fol Chen. More on that soon...
Here's a look at this week in local music:
Monday, February 2
- Aquarium Drunkard presents Le Switch, Whispertown 2000, Wrong Way Driver, & The World Record @ Spaceland (FREE)
- KROQ Locals Only, Buzzbands LA, Metromix, Citizen LA, and The Fold presents... Local Natives, The Outline, Lemon Sun, & Aushua @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- BENEFIT for KEVIN LITROW - 60 WATT KID + PIZZA! + HALLOWEEN SWIM TEAM + VOICES VOICES + BILLYGOAT @ Echo Curio

DECISION:
I haven't heard Local Natives, but the fact that Kevin Bronson's Buzz Bands site is co-presenting makes me curious... I don't think I've ever seen anything less than a completely amazing performance by Le Switch... I've meant to see So Many Wizards after watching that great video... and the line-up over at Echo Curio should make for a fun time.
Tuesday, February 3

- Mike Stinson & Dave Gleason @ Redwood Bar
- Check One Twosday w/ The Bronx @ Echoplex
- Razorlight @ The Troubadour

DECISION:
Haven't heard any of the supporting bands at Bordello on Weds night, but Castledoor play small venues like they're playing to crowds of thousands. (The line-ups at The Echo and The Troubadour are also well-worth checking out.)

- Andy Friedman, Horse Thieves, & City of Progress @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Pilar Diaz, Wait Think Fast, & La Santa Cecilia @ Bordello
DECISION:
Sure, you could (and, well, should) see The World Record play for free on Monday night, but there's something about catching them in a defunct, subterranean bowling alley...
Friday, February 6
- Elaine Layabout's Hella Hipster Hoedown w/ Divisadero, My Pet Saddle, Death to Anders, & Dirt Dress @ Pehrspace
- Angela Correa with Birdie Busch @ The Hotel Cafe

- Pizza!, Kid Infinity, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Dana & Stripes @ Bow & Sparrow Gallery
DECISION:
Elaine Layabout has taped video at dozens, if not hundreds, of great local shows the last few years. Her "Hella Hipster Hoedown" night with Divisadero, My Pet Saddle, Death to Anders, and Dirt Dress at Pehrspace is both self-explanatory and required viewing.
Saturday, February 7
- Fol Chen Record Release Party w/ Karin Tatoyan & Avi Buffalo w/ Dublab's DJ Clifford Lidell @ Pehrspace
- Dirty City Brothers, Kate Crash, & Black Tales @ Mr T's Bowl
- DREW DANBURRY + KEVIN GREENSPON + WHITMAN + CLARK 8 + WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS + STELLALUNA + ANNI ROSSI @ Echo Curio

- Scott Weiland @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- Funky Sole @ The Echo
- Carney @ The Troubadour
- The Lions @ Amoeba Music (2PM)
DECISION:
Pehrspace should be ridiculously packed on Saturday night as Fol Chen celebrate the release of their album on Asthmatic Kitty, along with the much liked Karin Tatoyan and Avi Buffalo. It's one of those self-sacrificing shows that's worth heading over early for a good spot and (gasp) not drinking so you don't lose it.
Sunday, February 8
- TSOL, Black President & The Stranger @ Echoplex
- Part Time Punks @ The Echo
- Suki Ewers, Dallas Don & The Echo Park Players, & Patria Jacobs @ Spaceland
- NoFX @ The Henry Fonda Music Box
- HUME + DAMEON LEE (of LOWLIGHTS) + ADAM ARCURAGI @ Echo Curio
- Alex & Sam @ Home (FREE)
DECISION:
The Los Feliz restaurant Home opened up a new location over at the far edge of Silver Lake and the food seems a lot better there. (It's one of those fancy brunch places.) They've also just started having shows, like this Sunday's performance by Alex & Sam. Maybe it'll replace Tangier's now that it's on hiatus...
That's it. Did I miss anything? Please lemme know.
