Band of the Week: Mezzanine Owls
Echoey and pretty and melodic, Mezzanine Owls are one of the many solid LA live acts we’re lucky enough to see on a fairly regular basis.
Spin has compared them to Jesus and Mary Chain and Doves, while others say they have bits of Jayhawks and Echo & The Bunnymen in their DNA… and they have one EP out right now – Slingshot Echoes, which you can find here – and are beginning work on another.
If this post was better timed, it’d tell you when you can next see them play here in town, but they just performed the Indie 103.1 night at The Viper Room with The Parson Redheads and Frankel earlier this week. Though, if you live right out of LA, you're in luck as they’re due to play The Prospector in Long Beach on June 12th and Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa on the 14th.

"The Mezzanine Owls" are most comparable to "The Church", that album Starfish. AND, I love them both.
Pretty and melodic aren't usually my speed, but I really like that first song, "Lightbulb", and its always cool to hear about good local bands...
