The Monday Show Low Down (Or “Look At The Pilot Now. He's Dancing In The Aisles.”)

In as much of a shameless plug as there ever was one, I’m going to say quite clearly that you ought to come out this evening for The Happy Hollows’ Monday residency show with Le Switch, Rademacher, The May Fire, and One Trick Pony at The Echo.

It’s a fantastic line-up, it’s FREE, and The Happy Hollows will have a four-song preview of their upcoming album for sale at the show. And I’ll be djing in-between sets a mix of great local acts like Earlimart, Division Day, Irving, Signal Hill, and more.

Now let’s look at the full week of music in LA w/ a few recommendations and video clips.

Monday, September 17
- The Happy Hollows, Le Switch, Rademacher, The May Fire, & One Trick Pony @ The Echo (FREE)
- Gram Rabbit, Abby Travis, & Gwendolyn @ Spaceland (FREE)
- The Valley Arena, Repeater, Satisfaction, & Katie The Pest @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- Anarchy in Hollywood w/Quaranteds, Inazuma, & The Urchins @ The Scene (FREE)
- Kelly Demartino Evan Slamka, Blonde on Blonde, & Gavin (Winter Flowers) @ Bordello
- Indie 103.1 Presents The Donnas, The Randies, & Girl in a Coma @ The Viper Room
- Acute, Miniature Tigers, & Ryen Sieger (Ozma) @ Tangier
- Matt & Kim @ The Troubadour
- The Sounds @ The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
- The Valley Arena & Repeater @ The Silver Lake Lounge

DECISION:
Someone wrote in last week to say that Gram Rabbit have really been killing it during their Monday night shows at Spaceland and I always enjoyed seeing their weird, deserty space rock live when I first moved to town a few years back.

Again, looks like I’ll be at The Echo this Monday, but I wanted to mention them.

Tuesday, September 18
- Nightfur, Tara Busch, The Mountain Party, & Todd McLaughlin @ Bordello

- Nutra, Jean Paul Yamamoto, & Criminal Decathlon @ The Echo
- Pink Nasty, Bolero, Tif Sigfrids, & Happy Mayfield @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Clap Your Hands Say Yeah & Elvis Perkins @ The Troubadour

DECISION:
I was surprised that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah weren’t as upbeat live as they were recorded last time they played The Troubadour, but maybe it’ll be different this time. (Still, I’m going to try to check out Nightfur at Bordello.)

DECISION:
If you can get over to Amoeba to see Film School play live for free, it’d be worth your time. But if you’re late or lazy, The Marvelous Toy are both quite promising and at The Silver Lake Lounge.

DECISION:
The Besnard Lakes plus The Minor Canon makes the trek out to The Troubadour pretty worthwhile.

Saturday, September 22

- Louis XIV, The Softlightes, & Quazar and The Bamboozled @ The Troubadour

DECISION:
I’m kind of amazed at how small and intimate of a venue that Largo is (and it's nice how they make everyone shut the fuck up). What a perfect place to see acts like Elvis Perkins play.

And Princeton is playing over on the east side of town at my favorite BYOB art gallery/music venue, Pehrspace.

Sunday, September 23
- Right Hand Band, Ploon, The Littlest Viking, & Oh Home @ The Smell
- The Young Goodman Browns, The French Semester, Dusty Drawers, & Hello Menno @ Spaceland
- The Eagle Rock Bowling & Drinking Club w/ Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Ghost Lullaby, & Teddy’s Cheer Club @ All-Star Lanes

DECISION:
Seeing upbeat indie pop acts Voxtrot and The Little Ones together might make you smile so wide that it stays like that.

That’s it. Did I miss anything? Please lemme know.
