The Monday Show Low Down (Or "In An Aeroplane Over The Sea...")

Right now, I'm frantically updating the site from LAX for -- no shit -- a last-minute flight to Paris for a few days for work. (Met Spielberg recently for it, too. The day job has been, I dunno, fairly entertaining lately...)

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to line up any articles in advance or press some guest writers into service, so the site will be dark until Friday morning.

In the meantime, there's always You Set The Scene, The LA Times Buzz Bands Blog, Surfing On Steam, Rock Insider, Squaregirls, and more. (And did you read all of our recent feature articles?)

But let's take a quick look at how this week is looking:

Monday, January 7
- Indie 103.1 Presents Check One... Two w/ The Deadly Syndrome, The Morning Benders, & Young Youth @ The Viper Room
- Radar Bros., Twilight Sleep, Le Switch, & Wrong Way Driver @ The Echo
- The Youngs, Calvin Weston w/MCR, & Mike Watt + Missingmen @ Mr T's Bowl
- Kawehi @ The Hotel Cafe
- We Barbarians, Aushua, & Drew Grow @ The Silver Lake Lounge (FREE)
- The Parson Redheads, Taylor Goldsmith, & The Golden Boats @ Spaceland (FREE)

DECISION:
The Deadly Syndrome are always great live, but the free residency show for the Radar Bros. (who I've been meaning to check out) w/ Le Switch sounds rad, too.

Tuesday, January 8
- Jesca Hoop @ The Hotel Cafe
- Beatmo @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Jeremy Jay, The Sess, The Muslims, & The Prayers @ The Troubadour

DECISION:
KCRW loves Jesca Hoop while KXLU loves Jeremy Jay. Which station do you listen to more? (KPCC, who I subscribe to, are unsurprisingly neutral on the subject.)

Wednesday, January 9
- The Youngs, Calvin Weston w/MCR, & Mike Watt + Missingmen @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- Money Mark @ The Troubadour
- Squaregirls Present Radars To The Sky, Rademacher, & Birds and Batteries @ The Scene

DECISION:
I'm really bummed to have to miss the fantastic pairing of Radars to the Sky and Rademacher -- two of my favorite live bands -- on Wednesday night. And I've wanted to see SF's Birds and Batteries because people say great things about them.

Thursday, January 10
- Six Organs Of Admittance @ The Echo
- The Karabal Nightlife, Birds & Batteries, Moving Picture Show, & The Lonely Hearts @ The Silver Lake Lounge
- The Airborne Toxic Event & The Morning Benders @ Spaceland

DECISION
The second of your four chances to catch the excellent Airborne Toxic Event at Spaceland this month... while The Karabal Nightlife, who sounded great last time I caught them, play at The Silver Lake Lounge.

Friday, January 11
- Jon Brion @ Largo
- Club Underground w/ The Happy Hollows & The Gray Kid @ The Echo
- Blackbird Heart & The Feather'd People @ El Cid
- Blanket, Telematique, & Good Luck Bear @ Pehrspace
- The Black Heart Procession @ Spaceland

DECISION
Duke from You Set The Scene and many other folks say you have to see Jon Brion play out. And Largo? Well, it's kind of a pain in the ass to get in there and it's pretty expensive, but since it's such an intimate little venue and they keep the chatter down, it's really worth it for the right act.

Also? I heart The Happy Hollows.

Saturday, January 12
- Dirt Dress, Man/Miracle, & The Monolators @ Pehrspace
- The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra, Divisadero, One Trick Pony, & The French Semester @ The Knitting Factory
- Jon Brion @ Largo

DECISION:
A good show at The Knitting Factory?! Seriously...

That's it! Please let me know if I missed anything (by posting a comment below).
